Links that are password protected, users will have to re-enter the password each time they click a link, but pages will be hidden from search engines and can’t be reached without the password.

Links that are not password protected will be easier for members to access without constantly typing a password, but you might get hits on the pages from external search engines.

I would suggest more sensitive material be password protected, and things like green usage kept open (so if someone bookmarks the URL after going to it from below, they’d not need to enter the password next time).

Content you only want visible to a select audience (for example committee members) can have a separate password set on it

Suggested Usage for the Member’s Area:

Green Usage - this page pulls from a gmail calendar, which will be updated with the detail from the weekly update

Hall Booking Form - moving this to the member’s area so it is only accessible to club members, and not advertising the hall as available externally

Meeting Minutes - if you want to share minutes from committee meetings, I can create a “Blog” page to handle this

AGM Update - similar to above, if there’s an AGM, do you want to share the output in the member’s area?

Club News - digital version of the notice boards, any announcements you want to make available online for members

Internal competitions - I can create fixtures/results pages for purely internal competitions rather than be on the public facing site

Members Charter/Code of Conduct - this was a suggestion from when I spoke with John Gibson briefly, putting here before I forget

NOTE - I initially tried using Squarespace’s “Member Sites” feature, which would have been a tidier way to manage this. However, you can’t control who signs up for an account. E.g. a non member could click on the sign-up link and create an account. We could subsequently delete this, but they could simply create it again.

The intended use of this feature is to make a paid membership feature, i.e. people pay a subscription to get exclusive content not available without doing so. When you set this to free though, it means anybody can join and the cost doesn’t put them off

It would only be feasible to do this if membership was collected in this way, but I would not suggest going down that route!

Another option would be to use something like Google Drive for documents etc you want to truly only be available to members. They can be linked to from here, but individuals would need to be given permission to view them
